Under the direction of Joan Unruh, Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Addictions Counselor, the Boulder Counseling Center offers individual, couples, family, and group therapy services for older children, adolescents, and adults.


Professional Experience
Joan Unruh has a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston College and received her Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland. She has been a therapist since 1995 at various clinics, including the Boulder County Addiction Recovery Center, the Eating Disorder Center of Denver, and Kaiser Permanente Mental Health. Her therapy practice opened in Boulder in 2000 and has been dedicated to nurturing change and recovery ever since.

Joan Unruh is an active member of the National Eating Disorders Association, Anxiety Disorders Association of America, Colorado Association of Psychotherapists, and the Eating Disorder Professionals of Colorado.

Personal Background
Joan is a married mother of two children and has lived in Boulder County since her move from New Jersey in 1996. She enjoys hiking with her dog, swimming, and relaxing with a cup of good coffee. Since 1997, Joan has been recovered from an eating disorder which lasted eight years. Her clients report that her history of struggle and recovery helps them to feel more fully understood, trusting in the therapy process, and open to implementing the skills she teaches.
